Meet Callie!

Callie B. Dean is a writer, researcher, and musician. She uses words, numbers, and pictures to tell stories that spark curiosity and encourage kids to explore their world.

Callie B. Dean is a writer, researcher, and musician living in Shreveport, Louisiana. She has a master's degree in community arts and more than a decade of experience leading STEM and arts education programs for children and youth of all ages. Using words, numbers, and pictures, she loves to tell stories that spark curiosity and encourage readers to explore their world.

For as long as she can remember, Callie has wanted to become an author. But it wasn’t until she started a musical story-time program at her local library that she began paying attention to (and eventually writing!) children’s books. She is looking forward to launching her first picture book in the fall of 2026! (Save the date!)

Callie is a roster artist through the Shreveport Regional Arts Council, an editorial assistant at Literary Mama, and a member of the STEM Tuesday team at From The Mixed-Up Files blog. Her essays and poetry have appeared at Coffee + Crumbs, JMWW, Journal of Compressed Creative Arts, Whale Road Review, and more. She has also written STEM curriculum materials for organizations like Palo Alto Networks and the Girl Scouts of the USA.

Outside of writing, Callie serves as the director of applied research at the LSUS Institute for Nonprofit Administration and Research and performs as a violinist with the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra. She enjoys running, hiking, baking, and hanging out with her husband, three sons, and their rescue pup, Toby.
